Liverpool’s predicted XI to face Wolves

Liverpool play Wolves on Thursday as they look to take their unbeaten Premier League run to 40 games.

They currently lead the Premier League table by a considerable margin with two games in hand, whilst their opponents are now a whopping 30 behind them in the table.

But the Reds only managed a 1-0 victory at Anfield against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in December, so this may be a trickier fixture than it looks on paper.

Having played on Sunday – and with an F.A Cup clash against Shrewsbury to come just three days after this match – it will be interesting to see who Jurgen Klopp sends on to the field against the Midlands club.

Here, we try to predict his starting XI.

In goal, Alisson will be between the sticks. For that cup match, Adrian should return, but in the Premier League the Brazil international is the undisputed number one.

The defence is unlikely to see any changes to it as well, meaning that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson will all keep their places. Joel Matip was on the bench against Manchester United after returning from injury, but given that the European champions have kept seven clean sheets in a row in the league, six of which have come with Gomez at centre-back, there is no need to make a switch.

In the first clash between these two teams this term, Klopp deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, and he could use that set-up here again. That will mean two in the middle of the park, so expect Jordan Henderson to remain in the side. Georginio Wijnaldum, though, could be taken out, with Fabinho to come back in after too returning from time on the sidelines.

The three players in the attacking midfield slots should be Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, with the latter taking up a deeper position than his usual centre-forward role. As such, Divock Origi could lead the line against a side that are said to be interested in him.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to this injury update.
